Welcome to Camp Gilwell
Where you can put the out in scouting
Camp Gilwell is located in the Comox Valley along the banks of the Brown’s River, close to Strathcona Provincial Park and Mount Washington Ski Resort. The area features snowboarding, downhill, and cross-country ski runs in winter, and hiking and mountain bike trails in the summer.
The camp has four cabins with electrical heating with bunk beds, no mats provided. The A-frame kitchen has a large grill, two stoves,(all three are propane) micro wave and fridges, hot and cold running water. The camp has a covered picnic shelter with a new fireplace for warmth on those damp days. There are three double outhouses, a single outhouse and a wash house with three indoor flush toilets. There is a limited shower facility with a small hot water tank. The camp has a good size sports field, campfire pits, and lots of tenting sites. The campsites were developed and are maintained by the local scouting groups, we ask that everyone respect the efforts of so many and try to keep things clean and safe for fellow campers.

Mount Washington is within driving distance (approx 30 mins), with skiing (downhill, snowboarding and cross country), snowshoeing and snow tubing available during the winter months. during the summer months there is mountain biking, disc golf and numerous trails to use there for great day hikes. During the ski season arrangements can be made for the ski bus to pick you up at the camp (there is a cost involved).
Forbidden Plateau is also within driving distance (approx 30 min) it can be used for winter programming. As well as hiking during the other seasons.
There are quite a few beaches within 30 – 45 mins drive time for exploration if you so desire.
